大学精神与大学理念 ─ 中西大学的心灵差异

The Spirit and Idea of a University：Chinese and Western Conceptions Compared

中国话语中的大学精神不同于西方话语中的大学理念，这两个概念之间不具有通约性，不能简单相互引用或转换，这两个词语的差异折射出的是两种不同文化中大学的心灵差异，精神和理念在大学结中的位置不同，发生的作用、功能也不同。大学的健全发展既需要有高远的大学精神，又需要有切合实际的大学理念，缺一不可。

The term the “spirit of a university” has different connotations in Chinese and English contexts， hence the term in two languages can not be taken simply as full equivalents， or fully interchangeable. Linguistic differences of this term reflect conceptual distinctions in their cultural constructs. The spirit and idea of a university have different positions in institutional structure， hence they have different functions. A university needs both a lofty spirit and a feasible idea. Both of which are indispensable.
