英文摘要 | This article attempts to investigate the establishment of Department of Chinese in University of Malaya (renamed as University of Singapore in 1962) to understand how the structure and teaching strategies of Chinese department in University of Hong Kong were transmitted to Southeast Asia and how t fulfilled the educational needs of the overseas Chinese. Since 1953, Ho Kuang-chung (Head of Chinese in University of Malaya) adopted the Chinese teaching strategies of HKU in Singapore and di ferent as- pects of the department were influenced by HKU, such as department structure, academic activities and library resources. The Hong Kong culture has shaped the ways of learning of overseas Chinese education and has influenced the Chinese learning experience of overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia afterward. This may be an indication of the viable direction of Chinese teaching in the future. |
