A Critical Retrospect： Reviews of Schooling in Capitalist America and Its Problems

Since Schooling in Capitalist America was published in 1976，tt has attracted considerable praise and sharp criticism in the past 40 years. Reflections and critiques of the book indicates different directions in the consequent radical theories of education. In 1970s，critiques were rather diverse in terms of theme and perspective； in 1980s， criticism was the major form of critiques and largely inlluenced the pres- ent perception of Schooling ； in 1990s， it has been widely treated as a historic text and advocates for reevaluation occurred occasionally but with little inlluence； and in the 21st century， the signiticance of the book has been further recognized，becoming research objective of some dissertations.
