A Study of the Support System and Governance Strategies of Remote District School Principal Leadership That Are Oriented Toward Problem-Solving
This study was based on the context and literature review of the support system of school principal’s professional learning community and administration, characteristics and multi-frames of school organization, decision-making process and school governance of principals in remote district schools, in order to fulfill the purposes of the research. The research purposes are as follows: 1. To understand the meaning of school governance; 2. To explore the internal and external influence factors of remote district school problems; 3. To explore the characteristics of the problems that need to be solved immediately in remote district schools; 4. To explore the support and help remote district school principals needed in the process of solving school problems; 5. To explore remote district school principals’ support system and governance strategies that are oriented toward problem-solving. Besides the literature review, the research cases were purposefully selected from principals, deans, directors, and teachers of primary and junior high schools in special remote districts inside and outside Taiwan and in general districts inside Taiwan. Meanwhile, scholars who were experts on topics related to this study were purposefully selected as the research cases. The total research cases were 17. This study adopted interview, focus group interview and document analysis to achieve the purposes of the research. The conclusions are as follows: 1. School governance is the process and result of principal leadership’s thinking and strategies for solving problems; 2. School affair problems and influence factors of remote district schools have a local, social, and national nature; 3. Remote district school problems are interrelated with national policies and systems; 4. Constructing internal and external decision-making and support network of remote district schools can help school principals govern schools and solve school problems; 5. Remote district school principals play a key role in solving school problems; 6. Remote district school principals govern schools with strategic leadership and they use leadership strategies to solve school problems. 7. Connecting locality and running featured schools are remote district school principals’ strategies for governing schools. Finally, this study put forward relevant suggestions and the focus of follow-up research for reference.
