Monitoring standards of the postgraduate medical education in the United Kingdom

Dr. Jacky Hayden and Dr. David indicate that there will always be a tension between delivering the medical care service and ensuring time for learning in postgraduate medical education. The balance requires monitoring to ensure national implementation of standards for hospital. However， in the United Kingdom the current system of visiting by many different agencies is disruptive to hospitals and wasteful of resources. Therefore， the North Deanery has worked with medical royal colleges to develop a coordinated system of visiting and reporting which is design to share information and expertise while reducing the pressure on hospital. In order to implement the new system， the authors propose several recommendations about setting and maintaining standards， and improving the quality of training.
