The Development，Effects and Challenges of the Modern Apprenticeship in the UK

In order to revitalize vocational education and boost economic development，the“modern apprenticeship”was declared to be carried out in 1993 by the UK government，which made a significant convert from traditional apprenticeship to modern apprenticeship in the UK. This reform has been undertaken for more than 20 years and it has become mature through three stages of development roughly. This reform has made a lot of remarkable achievements in several aspects：apprentice scale，legal system，training framework and certificates matching. Apart from the achievements，some problems also exist in modern apprenticeship as follows：more emphasis on quantity but overlook of quality，imbalance of profit distribution，information asymmetry，and imbalance of government funding. Some measures have been taken to promote the development of the modern apprenticeship，like paying more attention to the quality of training，coordinating the relationship between employer and apprentice，strengthening publicity and reforming the standards and ways of funding.
