Evaluation Report on the Professional Master’s Degree Thesis: A Quantitative Analysis of Thesis Sampling Results of Y City

Dissertation sampling is an important external oversight mechanism to ensure the quality of postgraduate education. Based on the 2014 master’s degree thesis sampling results of Y City， the quality of professional master’s degree thesis is monitored and evaluated from two perspectives including the overall quality and the sub-quality. The results show that the overall pass rate of the 2014 professional master’s degree thesis sampling of Y City was 93.74%， indicating that the professional master’s degree theses are up to standard on a general basis. Among 35 professional degree categories， there are 25 categories with 100% dissertation qualification rate， and 10 categories with unqualified dissertations. The sub-quality scores range from high to low as follows: topic selection and review， normativity， basic knowledge， research methods and practical ability， innovation and application values. When it comes to secondary indicators， different professional degree categories perform differently. The quality of professional master’s degree thesis exhibits significant differences in learning style and source of topic， but no significant differences in gender and type of thesis. Based on the findings， it is imperative to further optimize the enrollment structure of professional master’s degree program， implement practical training sessions and dual tutorial system， offer a variety of support in the process of topic selection and paper writing， and enhance the whole-process guidance for thesis preparation.
