Influences of the Development of Global Private Higher Education: A Critical Analysis

Private higher education includes a variety of types. Since the 1980s， the development of global private higher education has mainly displayed the rapid growth of the demand-absorbing type. The development of private higher education has both positive and negative influences. Positive influences include expanding higher education opportunity， relieving financial strain of the government， promoting mutual competition between public and private sectors and enhancing the efficiency of running schools. Negative influences include relatively low quality of higher education， increased inequality of opportunity and structural unbalance in program and region， and the reasons lie in both not persisting on the non-profit nature of private higher education and lack of regulation from the government and society.
