Analysis on Influential Factors of Classified Enrollment Students’ Subject Choice in the Research University

Reviewing previous literature with regard to college students ’ subject choice， the current paper analyzes the influential factors of students’ subject choice in a research university under a specific classified enrollment mode. Grounded on a questionnaire survey and statistical analysis， five factors are found to be significantly related to students’ subject choice. They are career prospect， subject strength， family background， others ’ influence and individual characteristics. Among all these factors， the influence of “individual characteristics” is proved to be the most distinctive one. Research universities are suggested to maintain an academic ecological balance and find a new way of acquiring new information and cognitive thinking styles of subjects. Moreover， to match a program orientation and aims， instructing students to explore academic interests is important.
