作为教育行为的翻译:早期清华案例研究

Translation as Education ： Case Studies of Early Tsinghua University

翻译是一种教育行为，而不仅仅是实现教育目标的一种手段。翻译可以教育一个国家(以塑造该国的现代性、促进大学学科建设），可以教育一个学人（以此塑造学人的博雅品格、锤炼多语的能力）。为此，本文以早期清华大学为例，着重探讨了修身养性的个人翻译行为、促进政治、文学和教育改革的翻译行为、从《清华周刊》看清华翻译对教育的影响等几个核心问题。

In this paper，the author ventures to propose that translation is an educational performance， rather than a means to reach an educational aim From a macro perspective，translation can educate a nation (to construct the nation’s modernity and promote the formation of academic disciplines)； from a micro perspective，translation can nurture new university students (to raise their scholarship and enhance their language abilities). The paper takes early Tsinghua University as a case study，investigating how translation functions m the reformation of a nation’s politics，education and literature. It also discusses how Tsinghua Weekly，a university-based newspaper，influences the academia of Chinese universities through discussion of a few key concepts
