英文摘要 | The primary aim of cross-curricular approach is to remove the boundary of traditional academic subjects, emphasizing shared concepts and spanning across diverse fields to establish profound connections and meaning. This approach strives to create a deep alignment between learning and students’ life experiences. However, music educators may confront a crucial issue: How music curriculum can “cross” beyond its familiar musical domain while still preserving the core values of music education? To address educators’ concerns about cross-curricular teaching in music, this article reviews the evolution of music education philosophy over the past 50 years. From Bennett Reimer’s aesthetics theory, David Elliott’s praxialism theory, to the reinterpretation of John Dewey’s democratic theory from a new perspective, these philosophical viewpoints help us understand the current international trend in music education, which is gradually moving towards cross-curricula approach. They also provide valuable insights for the reform of music education in Taiwan. |
