The Concept and Practice of Genius Hours and Self-directed Learning
Based on the concept of student-centered and self-directed learning, the genius hours in the form of personalized learning which allowing students to choose what they learn for enhancing their learning motivation. In this way, teachers base on open and flexible attitude which can guide students to conduct in-depth learning. This learning concept or method has become an important education trend in 2021 listed by European and American educational institutions in recent years. This article try to introduce the concept and characteristics of genius hours, then takes a domestic university interdisciplinary course as an example, analyzes the process and results of the application of self-directed learning. In final, we propose 30 feasible strategies of genius hours and self-directed learning for teachers’ reference. We hope that this new educational concept can be used to attract more attention and trials from domestic teachers and educators.
