The System of Board of Directors of Public Universities in Modern China: A Reference of Failure for the System of American Universities

在20世纪20年代，我国公立大学将美国大学董事会制度引入到实践层面，产生了不同的反响。董事会制度的设立，一方面适应了当时的形势要求，为有些学校的发展提供了支持；另一方面也带来了董事会与政府、校长、教授在治校上的矛盾。而正是后者导致了它的失败。

In 1920s， public universities adopted the board of directors system into the practice， which showed different influences on Chinese universities. On one hand， the establishment of this system adapted to the local needs and provided support for the development of universities. On the other hand， it brought various conflicts between the board of directors and governments， and between presidents and professors when it comes to the universities' administration. All of these conflicts led the system of board of directors to the failure.
