On the Importance of "Education beyond Law" in Legal Education of Modern China

The discussion on legal education in modern China is often focused on ＂professional legal education＂. Accordingly， the current laws and the rules of professional behavior of judge， prosecutor and lawyer are deemed as the central point of theoretical and practical education. However， as the older jurist Professor Yan Shutang said， the qualified ＂legal mind＂ shall also embody common sense of society， moral ideal and historical perspective. Only when we have common sense of society， can we have an understanding of the interaction between law and society and connect legal judgment with judgment of common sense; Only when we have moral ideal， can ＂rule of law＂ as ＂rule of good law＂ come into reality and the legal profession maintain its publicity; Only when we have historical perspective， can we have a correct cognition of the historical status of legal concept and practice and avoid the problem that law cannot meet the requirements of the times.
