Higher Education and Happiness: A Study of WVS Micro-level Data of China and Japan

By using Chinese and Japanese data of World Values Survey (WVS) ， this paper studies the relationship between higher education and happiness，. This paper finds higher education of China and Japan has significantly enhanced individual happiness， but there are differences in mechanism between China and Japan. In China， mainly through meeting the demand of personal materialism， higher education promotes individual well-being， and post-materialism assumption that higher education affected individual happiness does not hold. In Japan， higher education is to enhance individual happiness by promoting the satisfaction of individual materialism and post-mechanisms. These findings are insightful for achieving purposes of higher education and enhancing individual happiness in China.
