L.Rafael Reif,the 17th MIT President,believes that the latest educational technology has brought higher education into brewing trouble with the cost and will eventually challenge the prevailing“residential campus”model.In his opinion,a university ought to embrace rather than resist changes,and MIT must ensure that the university’s mission and values are implanted in everyone’s heart,always“take the high road”,focus on grand educational issues,adhere to meritocracy,lead in basic research,shape the future,and serve the nation and the world.
