Disruptive Leadership: A New Approach for Leading Educational Change and Innovation
In an ever-changing world, as educators need to lead innovation and change in school education under more challenging, complex situation. Increasingly, disruptive innovation takes into account to apply this theory to education and to improve schools. And disruptive innovation needs disruptive leadership to make the theory into school practices. Especially the need for innovation and changes in our educational system has been increasingly grow. Disruptive leadership means that you are always looking for better solutions to your problems and searching for ways to innovate your organization’s products, services, and processes. The purpose of this paper is to explore how educational leaders might use disruptive leadership to improve educational outcomes and performance. In this paper, the development and definition of disruptive leadership was introduced. And characteristics and skills of disruptive leaders was examined. Further, Six feasible strategies for educational leaders using disruptive leadership to lead educational change and innovation were evolved: 1. Developing shared disruptive vision and purpose. 2. Changing educator’s mental model to disrupt existing practices. 3. Commitment to be successful to vision and give the ownership of innovation to educators. 4. Shaping disruptive school culture to embrace challenges and change. 5. Empowering educators to develop disruptive skills. 6 Investing resources and leveraging digital technology and platform.
