中国大学生英语书面语中shall 的使用研究

The use of modal verb shall in Chinese college EFL learners' written English

本研究采用语料库方法，以WECCL2.0 和LOCNESS 两个语料库提供的语料为依据，分析了中国大学生英语书面语中情态谓词shall 的使用特点。研究发现：1）我国大学生情态谓词shall 的使用与英语本族语者相比无显著差异，但仍呈现过多使用趋势。2）学习者书面语中shall 之前过多使用第一人称代词复数作为主语，且过多地使用“... shall we...?”句式。这使得学习者的作文与本族语者议论文的文体特点极不相符，且存在着较为严重的口语化倾向。3）不同水平学习者在shall 的使用频率和使用特征上基本一致，未表现出明显差异。

Based on the data in the two corpora WECCL2.0 and LOCNESS， this study makes a detailed analysis of the use of the modal verb shall in Chinese college EFL learners' written English. The results indicate no significant difference in the use of shall between Chinese college EFL learners and English native speakers， but the tendency of overusing the modal verb shall by Chinese college EFL learners is obvious. They also overuse the first person plural pronouns as the subject before shall and the construction “… shall we…”， which makes their written English quite informal. No significant difference in the use of shall has been found between Chinese learners at two different proficiency levels.
