Register awareness in second language acquisition

语言的范围、方式和风格交叉形成了许多语用域（registers），人们对它们并非[生而知之]，而是[学而后知]。Halliday 等人的《使用中的语言》是一本以语言学、特别是社会语言学为基础的语言教学大纲，也可以说是对语文教学改革的一次重大尝试。中国英语学习者语言中存在语用域意识的问题，根据我们对中国学习者的英语语料的分析，发现存在一种中国学习者语体，基本上是[写话]，学习者用这种单一的语体来表达各种需要。要提高他们的语用域的意识必须从教和学两个方面来考虑。

The fields， modes， and styles of discourse combine to produce various registers， which are not innate， and have to be acquired. The syllabus Language in Use based on linguistics and sociolinguistics worked out by Halliday et al is an important attempt to reform language teaching. Chinese learners of English also face the similar problem of register awareness. Based on our analysis of Chinese learner corpus， there exists a kind of register specific to Chinese learners of English: they tend [to write what they speak.] In other words， they use the same register to express different social needs. Both aspects of teaching and learning should be considered in order to raise their register awareness.
