University and the Public-The Contribution of university based Adult Education to Public science and Lifelong Learning

大學所涉及的成人教育，主要包括兩方更：其一，成人教育的主題存在於大學學科中，且必須融入在為學生所規劃的學習計畫內，其目標在於促使學生能擔任成人教育機構的工作者。其二，成人教育即為大學中的一項學術領域，並且在新終身學習典範架構之下開展，以持續地培養教育訓練人員，並促使實務工作者經常對於系統性的成人教育，有所新認識。本文首先反省大學與公眾的相互關係，並敘述成人教育在歐陸如何成為大學的學科。此外，專業他的趨勢、衝擊、方法，已多年來被許多成人教育學者所關注，而其實踐策略，亦為許多國家所熟悉。而就高等教育領域中的成人及繼續教育而言，當英噞與美國已經將成人教育作為校外推廣活動，且為期已久時，而在德國就某些方面而言，則仍只是新近之事。本文最後則論述大學成人教育在終身學習趨勢中的發展。

Universities are generally involved with adult education mainly in two directions. As Adult Education is a separate subject within the universities disciplines it has to be engaged in study programs designated for students aiming at a position in institutions or agencies of adult education. Furtherone adult education as a university discipline may participate in those activities that are running are under the new paradigm of lifelong learning， that is to train the trainers constantly， to help practioneers with new findings of scientific adult education periodically. The article starts with reflections on the general interrelationship of universities and the public and shows how adult education became a university subject in continental Europe. The trends， impacts and solutions of professionalization are demonstrated by the authors experience as a professor of this subject for many years und who is familiar with the strategies in many countries. Adult and Continuing Education in Higher Education is in Germany for instance is something relatively new， whilst the British and the US-American Universities have performed in adult education as extramural activities for a long time being.
