As an important approach of teacher professionalization， the 5─year teacher education program in America has gained substantial growth in recent years. The successful experiences of Stanford University and University of Virginia indicate that if we want to facilitate the development of 5─year teacher education program in China， we need to modify the orientation of teacher education from the perspective of improving student learning， and adopt the proper teacher education model according to the realities of higher education institutions.
