The Investigation of the Status Quo of Professional Development of Psychological Teachers in Elementary and Secondary Schools and the Exploration of Their Future Developmet
Psychological teachers’ professional development becomes the key to promote mental health education in elementary and secondary schools. The study used the questionnaire designed by Institute of Educational Psychology and School Counseling, Faculty of Education, Beijing Normal University and collected data from 72 elementary and secondary schools in eight provinces by stratified sampling. The study conducted statistical analysis using SPSS. The results revealed the stat us quo and problems of the professional development of psychological teachers in elementary and secondary schools in the aspects of basic condition, working situations, professional training system and the environmental support for them. Suggestions were made including clarifying the professional role of psychological teachers, strengthening the professional training, establishing a sound management system, and promoting collaboration between psychological teachers and other subject teachers and students’ parents.
