The Analysis and Inspirations of the STEM Promotion Policy in Europe

Under the global economic powers pay more efforts to develop STEM education， European countries have implemented STEM education policies and programms to cultivate the innovative talents and improve international competences. The article first describes the contradiction between the STEM workforce supply and shortage， illustrating the internal and external factors of the shortage. The European policies and programms and its characteristics are introduced and summarized including promoting civil Scientific literacy， inspiring students’ interest towards science learning， guiding students and graduates to join the STEM-related occupation. The suggestions to promote Chinese STEM education are that setting up the special administrative department and the collaboration with multi-sectors， increasing civil Science Capital， building the STEM centres and platform and the use of informal science learning， the training of STEM teachers and the researchers of higher education supporting the primary and secondary STEM education.
