Hotspots and Trends in Technology Application of Higher Education: A Review of Ten years’ Horizon Report

The Horizon Report ( Higher Education Edition') , published by the New Media Consortium of the United States, is a report specifically predicting the application and developmental trend of technology in higher education. This study aims to systematically analyze the Horizon Report (2018 Higher Education Edition') and review ten Horizon Reports ( Higher Education Edition') that were released between 2009-2018 , describing the features of trends, challenges and educational technology adoption mentioned in the reports. Based on the review and analysis,the study summarized several hotspots and trends in technology adoption of higher education: 1 ) redesigning learning spaces and promoting integration of formal and informal learning; 2 ) propelling innovative culture and coping with the aging of knowledge; 3 ) encouraging universities to actively cooperate between institutions and industries to further increase educational opportunities and promote digital equity; 4 ) understanding individual real learning achievements through learning measurements, precision instruction and narrowing the gap between individual achievements, promoting individual maximum development and providing data-based proof of ability 5 ) clarifying objectives and contents of digital literacy instruction, improving educators and learners,digital literacy and changing the roles of both educators and learners ;6) creating opportunities for interdisciplinary learning and learning experiences based on real situation/ real problems and preparing learners with new skills to meet the needs of the future society; 7 ) intelligent technologies ,such as artificial intelligence, robotics and etc. would play more and more important role in technology application of higher education.
