The Perception and Practice of Family Education among Rural School Teachers and the Formation of Class Culture

Rural teachers are one of the social groups who are likely to possess certain middle class characteristics in rural China . Based on the qualitative materials collected with young rural teachers in Yunnan and Xinjiang，the study examined the characteristics of the group's perception and practice of fami- ly education . A Bourdieudian framework of class was employed to analyze the group ?s cultural features re- flected in their perception and practice such as emphasis on teaching，doing it by oneself and being autono- mous etc. The study found that the perception and practice of family education among the rural teachers were closely related to the rich cultural capital possessed by the group，and they were also inlluenced by the g^oup?s experiences of social mobility， which leads to the presence of unique cultui^e taste of the group. The understanding of the perception and practice of family education among rural teachers can help us to have in-depth understanding of the educational perception of this teacher group and thus understand the complex processes of social stratification and cultural production in contemporary China.
