The Crisis and Reconstruction in the Legitimacy of Teacher Authority
In the present days， the authority of teachers has fallen into a crisis in legitimacy which is undermined by the over-generalization of equal relations， the squeeze of administrative power and the weakening of self-empowerment. This crisis is not only related to the theoretical deconstruction of traditionalism， the institutional rationalization， the democratization of life and the popularization of culture in modern society， but also to the misuse or abuse of teacher’s authority. To reconstruct its legitimacy， teachers should excise their authority by respecting the freedom of students， on the sound professional foundation， in a public way， and with the trust relationship between teachers and students.
