For Quality Inclusion: The Study of Paraprofessionals in the US and Implications
A support team approach to inclusive education is core to the assurance of its quality. The team should include general education teachers and a number of other professionals. As an indispensable member of the team， paraprofessionals are a bridge of professionals and the served children with special needs. By unraveling the evolution of the trade of paraprofessionals， it is revealed that its emergence was concurrent with the development of inclusive education in the United States. Legislation further consolidated the social status of the trade. It is suggested that China strengthen the top-down formulation of inclusive education policies and establish the profession of paraprofessionals to accelerate China's inclusive education.
