An Exploratory Study on the Establishment of Shared Governance System: The Case of A University Statute

The establishment of university statute is an important measure and institutional assurance to improve internal governance. In order to know the latest trend in shared governance at public universities in China， the authors conduct an exploratory study on the development of internal governance at A university. It is found that contrary to the original bureaucratic management system， public universities in China have absorbed the core thought of “shared governance”， which has been reflected in the internal structure arrangement. While it still differs from shared governance in the USA in terms of substantive participation of multi-subjects， functions of academic senate and the nature and role of board of directors due to environmental restrictions， it's still a crucial and significant step for Chinese public universities to establish a governance system with our own characteristics.
