Endowed Professorship: An Institutional Innovation in University Talent Recruitment and Fundraising

Endowed Professorship， which has a long history in western universities， has been an effective mode to attract and retain outstanding scholars who are expected to make enormous contributions to top-class universities through their academic research and enhance the social impact of universities. Endowed Professorship is regarded as both great honor and award to the holders. It also helps to increase the endowment fund to universities and provide an ideal charity opportunity for the donors. This paper introduces the origin， value and current status of endowed chair or professorship in top-class universities and suggests that Chinese universities make the best use of this institution to recruit and retain top-notch scholars.
