Building a Student-Centered Campus Culture: Structure and Management

这篇论文的目的是要讨论以学生为中心的教育对高等教育的重要性。以学生为中心的教育不是 一个口号，而是一种文化，渗透和贯穿整个校园。在以学生为中心的教育前提下，每一个学生的价值都被认 可，在校园里创制行政系统与管理法规，允许学生根据自己的能力调整自己的学习步伐，并通过有效地整合 学习资源，支持每一个学生的学习。这篇论文进一步探讨适当的行政结构和管理制度体现以学生为中心的 教育最佳实践，从使命宣言、愿景、核心价值观、积极的教学和学习到全面的支持服务，重点放在学生的成长 发展，评估学生的学习成果。这是过去30 年来也是未来的发展趋势。全国越来越多的高等教育机构，或大或 小，或公立或私立，已经接受了这一新的教育模式并大量投入基础设施和教师/行政人员的培训，以便在校 园更好地实施和维持以学生为中心的教育。

The intent of this article is to address the importance of student-centered education to higher education institutions. Student-centered education is not a slogan but a culture which permeates throughout the entire campus. Under the premise of student-centered education， each and every student is valued and is allowed to learn at his/her own pace based upon his/her ability and is supported in their learning by effective learning resources available on campus. This manuscript further specifies an administrative structure and management system reflecting best practices for student-centered education being infused into the mission statement， vision， core values， active teaching and learning， and comprehensive support services to assessment of student learning outcomes with a focus on student growth and development. It has been a trend for the past 30 years and it is anticipated that more and more higher education institutions across the country， small or large， public or private， will embrace this new paradigm and invest in infrastructure and on-going faculty/staff training to better implement and sustain student-centered education on their campuses in the future.
