大学教师教学发展中心应致力于促进大学教师从基于个人体悟与自省的经验发展模式，向基于理性训练与培育的专业发展模式转型。它既不能是纯粹的行政机构，也不能是纯粹的学术机构，而应兼具行政机构与学术机构的双重性质，将行政机构和学术机构的性质有机地融为一体，成为担负教师专业发展责任的专门机构。教师教学发展中心的主要功能，在于强化教学专业认知、提升教学专业伦理、培育教学专业文化，以及促进大学办学水平和人才培养质量的提高。

A center for faculty development should be committed to promoting the transition of university teachers' development from the empirical mode based on personal experience and self -awareness， to the professional mode based on rational training and cultivation. It is neither a purely administrative agency， nor a purely academic institute; instead， it is a specialized organization dedicated to the professional development of teachers by fulfilling the dual roles of administrative agency and academic institute. The main functions of faculty development center include: strengthening the professional awareness of teaching， enhancing the professional ethics of teaching， cultivating the professional culture of teaching， and improving the quality of teaching and learning in higher education institutions.
