英文摘要 | The promulgation of Smith-Hughes Act laid the foundation of American Vocational Education Legislation system, which marks the establishment of Federal-State-Local cooperative model in developing vocational education. There are relatively plentiful researches emphasizing on discussing the historical status of Smith-Hughes Act, but few give attentions to its practical implementation. Based on a careful examination on previous literature, this paper discusses the implementation of the Act in the first five years (1917-1922) , and its impact on the aspects of vocational education appropriation, vocational school development, and vocational teachers. This article also combs the development of vocational education under federal aid after 1922, which set up a platform for later development of vocational education in America. Institute of Education, Tsinghua University, Beijing, 100084) Abstract: Al-Ghazali and Zhu Xi were both respected as the reviver and epitome of the Islamic and Confu-cian cultures respectively in the 11th-l2th century. Their thoughts were immensely influential in the development of the two great civilisations. This is a comparative study of the two figures' educational thoughts. The key questions are as the following: What are the core concepts and missions of their educational thoughts? What are the connections that may draw the two lines of thoughts together? And as reflected by the two figure? s educational thoughts, what are common values shared by the Islamic and Confucian education? Inspired by the Islamic -Confucian scholarly tradition in the Chinese culture over the past six centries, this study aims to promote the dialogue between the Islamic and Confucian culture. By now this study is the first comparative study of educational thoughts between Al - Ghazali and Zhu Xi. |
