The construction of the university system for new China underwent a long and complicated process.The system was based on three university systems:the Western university system and university ideas,the Soviet model of higher education,and the higher education model that had been developed by Chinese Communist Party members in the revolutionary years.The three university systems influenced the choice and the construction of the university system for new China.The special knowledge about higher education and about the nature of universities determines that the construction of the modern university system in China has a long way to go.
