精品视频公开课作为“十二五”高校本科质量工程的重要内容已率先启动，对提升高等教育质量、促进社会教育发展有重要意义。文章梳理了国内外视频课程建设现状，分析了首批入选国家精品视频公开课的选题特征，比较了教育电视、精品课程视频和视频公开课之间在制作运营模式、课程内容、传播渠道等方面存在的差异，据此提出了相应的建设推广策略。
