英文摘要 | Public Speaking (PS), introduced from the US and promoted as a university curriculum—English Public Speaking (EPS) since 2005, has gained a nationwide recognition. However, the teaching practice calls for an urgent localization, owing to among others the confusion of the nature of course and consequently of its basic teaching approach. The present paper takes a panorama view and attempts an exploration into the framework of the localization of EPS at Chinese universities. It puts forward two proposals: First, EPS should be delivered as an EFL course; and second, an output-driven integrated teaching approach should be adopted, in which the role of writing is highlighted. All in all, the paper details how the simplicity of a plausible teaching approach effectively covers China's situation while taking into account the rich implications of a Public Speaking (PS) course in general. |
