英文摘要 | Since the 1980s Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) at various levels have taken active part in promoting the basic education in China in different ways such as providing funds for school buildings and school libraries. Later, NGOs started to collaborate with the local government and tertiary institutions to train teachers through partnership program. As an NGO based in Hong Kong, Sowers Action (SA) has engaged in educational development in western China over 20 years. Drawing on a case study of junior English teacher training program in Yongde County in Yunnan, this paper aims to introduce the SA English teacher training program in Yongde and discuss three aspects: (1) the feasibility, characteristics and effect of SA-YNU (Sowers Action—Yunnan Normal University) partnership in teacher development; (2) problems of rural English teacher development; (3) the challenges and prospect of SA-YNU partnership. |
