The Curriculum Vision and Idea of 12-year Compulsory Education
This study probed the curriculum vision and core idea of 12-year compulsory education, which will serve as a frame of reference for the development of curriculum guidelines. We have reviewed and discussed the current curriculum idea of compulsory education and deliberated on relevant educational laws and regulations, the directions of important educational policies, international trends, as well as related basic research on elementary and high schools. The curriculum vision of 12-year compulsory education, “Every child will achieve their goals: talent-praising well and lifelong learning”, was brought forth. The core idea was shaped by such discussions as J. Dewey’s experiential philosophy, the subjectivity of post-modern education, complex thought, and the key competencies essential for students of every stage. The curriculum idea encompasses not only an individual’s self-realization and a national’s basic qualities but also a global citizen’s responsibilities and ethics. We put forward spontaneity, interaction, and common good as the curriculum idea of 12-year compulsory education.
