Tongzhi Education Curriculum on University Students' Attitudes Toward Gay and Lesbian Peers

本研究旨在探討大學生修讀同志教育課程後，對男、女同志人際關係態度改變之情形，並比較男、女生態度改變的差異性。研究對象為某大學選修「性別教育」課程學生，共有43人。課程內容包含：舉辦同志專題演講、小組討論、同志伴侶／婚姻影片探究、同志人權相關資料的閱讀以及參加臺北同志大遊行。研究方法採二因子混合設計（性別×前後測），資料蒐集則以量化為主、質性為輔。研究工具有二，分別是「大學生對男同志人際關係態度」與「大學生對女同志人際關係態度」量表。每一量表各有三個層面，包含友情接受度、愛情認同度與關懷同情度。研究發現，全體學生在接受課程教學之後，對男同志的友情接受度後測分數有所提升。男生對男、女同志愛情認同度在後測的分數皆高於前測，女生則無顯著差異。男、女生對男同志或女同志的關懷同情度皆無顯著差異。本研究依據研究結果，提出大學性別教育課程教學建議。

The purpose of this study was to assess changes in attitudes before and after a tongzhi (Chinese word for gay and lesbian) education curriculum was implemented in a gender education course in a local university in Taiwan. The participants were 29 female and 14 male undergraduate students who enrolled in the course in the fall semester of 2009. To reduce students' prejudice toward gay and lesbian peers, the training sessions used various teaching activities, such as role plays, panels of gay people, audio-visual material on gay and lesbian partnerships / marriages, reading material on human rights for gay and lesbian people, and the attendance of a tongzhi pride parade in Taipei. All students completed a pre-survey before the 6-week tongzhi education curriculum was implemented. Post-surveys were conducted the day after the last training session. The split-plot factorial design (SPF-2 X 2) was applied to analyze the quantitative data to examine the interaction between genders (men and women) and the training sessions (pre-test and post-test). Qualitative data were collected to support the evidence from the quantitative data. The results showed that attitudes toward gay men on friendship improved significantly after the training. A significant interaction was seen between students' gender and the training sessions on attitudes toward gay and lesbian partnerships / marriages. Male students indicated significantly higher positive scores for gay men and lesbian partnerships/marriages after the training sessions. There is no significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores for female students.
