On STEM Problems in U.S. Higher Education and the Countermeasures in the 21st Century

21世纪，美国在高等教育阶段存在学生科学、技术、工程和数学素养缺失、大学科学、技术、工程和数学学位不足、大学培养的尖端科技人才短缺等问题。针对这些问题，美国联邦政府主要从两方面进行了应对：促进高校在科学、技术、工程和数学领域的创新和研究，加强对研究生/ 博士后进行科学、技术、工程和数学研究的资助。美国对高等教育科学、技术、工程和数学问题的应对呈现出思想上的高度重视、资金上的大力投入，以及多部门的协同行动等特点。

In the 21st century, there are mainly three STEM problems existing in U.S. higher education, which are as follows. The students lack STEMquality, the universities do not have enough degrees in STEM, and the universities are unable to offer the society the best STEMtalents. Facing these problems, the U.S. federal government mainly takes two measures. The first is to promote the innovation and research in STEM in universities. The second is to increase research fund in STEM to graduates and post-doctors. The features of solving these problems are as follows. It attached importance to STEMseriously in promoting the international competitiveness, invest more money into STEMprograms, and promote cooperation amongmany institutions to work harmoniously.
