高等教育国际化与“国际化”个人——美国在华留学生经历研究

Internationalisation and Internationalised Individuals： Intercultural Experiences of American Students in China

全球经济一体化加速了我国教育的国际化进程。作为国际化在高教领域的显著表现，来华留学生人数迅速增长。本文基于对一项中美大学生交换项目的长期跟踪研究，分析8名美国学生在我国的跨文化教育经历及其对参与者文化理解与包容度的影响。本文报道以每月跟踪访谈为主，其他数据搜集方式包括问卷、学生日记、各种非正式交流。研究发现，留学期间受访学生逐渐克服了原有文化定势，尊重文化“他者”，形成了更“国际化”的个人意识与态度。研究也显示，个人、高校与社会因素影响了学生自我认知的改变，包括个人能动性、学校支持与校外经历。

Globalisation accelerates the internationalization of higher education in China. International students are the most visible representation of internationalized Chinese universities, with the number of them growing rapidly. This paper reports an intensive longitudinal multiple-case study. It explores the development of global perspectives of eight American exchange students in a top Chinese university in 2010. Data presented in the paper comes from monthly interviews. Other data sources include demographic questionnaire, audio diaries and informal conversations. The findings reveal that at the end of the exchange programme, students show a more "internationalized" personal identity with an ability of avoiding overgeneralisation from cultural stereotypes and a growing tolerance for cultural "others" It also identifies individual institutional and wider social factors resulting in this growth.
