E-moderating is the Key to Teaching and Learning Online: An interview with Dr. Gilly Salmon

吉利·西蒙(Gilly Salmon)是近年来活跃于欧洲远程教育界的一位知名学者，在在线教学和在线教师培训方面享有很高的知名度。1989年，她从英国开放大学工商管理学院的一名普通讲师做起，后升任工商管理学院的区域主任，专门负责管理英国开放大学工商管理学院在全欧洲的教学及学术工作。1996年起，她全面负责商学院在全球的教学工作，包括7000名辅导教师的学术发展和25000 名学生的教学质量，并负责形成了英国开放大学第一个教学技术战略。2000年，她被任命为美国开放大学MBA 项目主管，全面负责教学、评估、教材开发、教师专业发展等工作。2001－2004 年，她担任英国开放大学管理系主任，负责该系在英国、西欧、东欧、非洲及亚洲的教学、质量评估以及市场合作等工作。在英国开放大学的16 年里，西蒙担任过多种角色———教师、教师培训者、管理者以及学习者，在此期间，她获得了英国开放大学教育技术在线培训方向的哲学博士学位，这也使得她非常强调在线教师自己首先要是一个在线学习者。2004年10月－2010年12月，西蒙担任英国莱斯特大学教授，教授"在线学习和学习技术"，同时担任"尖端远程教育研究联盟"(Beyond Distance Research Alliance)主席。莱斯特大学是英国知名大学，创建于1921 年，是少数几所多次获得高等教育女王奖的大学之一，其远程教育在英国位居前列。尖端远程教育研究联盟受英国高等教育研究院和联合信息委员会资助，主要任务是通过开展电子学习、学习技术及其应用等方面的学术研究，提高莱斯特大学在信息、通讯和学习技术方面的研究发展能力。在此工作的6 年时间里，西蒙通过举办培训班、国际会议、出版研究成果等多种形式，有力推动了该校电子学习、学习技术的研究成果转化，为莱斯特大学开展远程教育提供了技术开发、经验传播、教师远程教育能力提升等方面的支持。之后，在担任了一年的澳大利亚南昆士兰大学数字化未来研究所执行主任和教授后，西蒙于2012 年1 月开始担任位于澳大利亚墨尔本的斯温伯恩技术大学的副校长和教授。斯温伯尔尼技术大学是一所享誉澳大利亚及海内外的国际性高等教育院校，作为该校负责教学的副校长，西蒙主要负责学校能力建设，包括移动学习、开放学习、全球化革新，以及学习策略开发、学习评价、教学、数字技术与未来学习等。西蒙是一位"扎根"的研究者。她基于自己在在线教学一线的丰富经验，进行了许多旨在改进教学的实证研究，并形成了许多研究成果。她在2000 年和2002 年分别出版了《在线辅导：在线教与学的关键》(E－modera-ting： The key to teaching and learning online)(2004年再版，2012 年第三次修订出版)、《在线活动：积极的在线学习的关键》(E－eivities： The key to active online learning)(将于2013年再版)两本专著。此外，西蒙还担任《英国教育技术杂志》和《土耳其远程教育在线杂志》的客座主编，并曾担任意大利、马来西亚的多本远程教育杂志的编委。本期访谈，西蒙结合自己的教学经验和研究成果，就当前世界远程教育尤其是在线教学的现状、问题和未来发展等问题分享了她的独到见解，希望能对我国远程教学的发展和相关研究有所借鉴和启发。

Dr. Gilly Salmon is an active and well-known scholar in the field of distance education in Europe. She has got a high reputation in online teaching and online teacher training. She has been working in the Open University of Britain where she has witnessed and participated in its development for almost 16 years. Dr. Gilly Salmon was first a lecturer of the Business School of Open University in 1989 and soon the Group Regional Manager. She took up the responsibility of learning and teaching since 1996. And then, she was appointed MBA Director by the UK Open University in 2000 and took an overall responsibility for students, teaching and assessment, development and adjustment and versioning of materials, faculty development in the US based in Denver Colorado. She took up the position of Chair, Certificate in Management Programme of The Business School of Open University from 2001 to 2004. Her Role envolved the overall responsibility for marketing and partnerships, 6,000 students and 400 tutors, full academic accountability of teaching quality and assessment of programmes in translation and delivery in UK, Western and Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia. Dr. Gilly Salmon has accumulated a wealth of experience and research results in distance teaching, material development, student support service and teacher training etc, which helped her to be engaged in the leadership and the overall innovative work in the famous universities of UK and Australia later. She was a professor of E-learning & Learning Technologies and Head of the Beyond Distance Research Alliance of University of Leicester October in UK from 2004 to 2010. She was appointed Pro Vice-Chancellor(Learning transformations) of Swinburne University of Technology in Australia in 2012. Dr. Gilly Salmon has published two books: E-moderating: The key to teaching and learning online and E-eivities: The key to active online learning. At the same time, she served as guest editor for the British Education technology Journal(BJET) and Turkish Online Journal of Distance Education. In this interview, Dr. Gilly Salmon introduced and analysed the status and challenges of online teaching and learning based on her experience and research.
