One of the distinctive features of global higher education market development is the proliferation of branch campuses throughout the world.With the intention of increasing international profile and exploring new educational market，a number of leading higher education players are opening branch campuses in different countries，especially in Asia.The paper describes the general trends and characteristics of international branch campuses and analyses the potential market and problems facing the international branch campuses in Mainland China.Some emerging challenges and policy agendas of the future development of branch campuses are put forward in regard to its sustainable growth.
