| 英文摘要 | This paper intends to discuss indigenous environmental justice in the Acoma poet Simon J. Ortiz’s poems and proses in Woven Stone (1992). By employing an interpretive framework of indigenous environmental justice, this paper examines three major themes in Ortiz’s writings: indigenous land dispossession and limited use of natural resources, nuclear colonization and the effects of uranium mining, poverty and capitalist wage economy. Therefore, I argue that Ortiz’s poems and proses in Woven Stone address indigenous environmental justice in which violence to indigenous peoples and to the land is interrelated. By drawing strong connection between racial oppression and environmental degradation, Ortiz’s writings show that it is significant to bring human concerns into the considerations of environmental problems, especially those of minority groups who have suffered disproportionate distribution of environmental hazards and unfairness in environmental decision-making. After all, indigenous environmental justice calls attention to the well-being of the homeland with which indigenous peoples live and work in physical and spiritual relationship. |
