What is Transpersonal Psychology

对任何一种心理学或一个学派下定义都不是件容易的事。通常也不一定非下定义不可。就是现在，如果我们要对精神分析、行为主义或人本心理学下一个定义，也不是容易做到的。但一种新的学派兴起的时候，尤其当它的创建者们要刻意强调这种新学派的新意和价值并力图寻求承认的时候，基本的界定就显得重要了。超个人心理学(transpersonal psychology)正是这样一个新的学派，而且它是用一个新造的词作为名称，所以界定就显得尤为重要而迫切了。

There were uses of the single term ＂transpersonal＂ in the early 20th century. But there seems to be no record of ＂transpersonal psychology＂ as a title of a psychological school being used before the late 1960s. There are many kinds of definitions of transpersonal psychology. Basically we can define it as follows： transpersonal psychology concerns with both personal and what is beyond. It can be understood as melding the wisdom of the world's spiritual traditions with the learning of modern psychology.
