研究型大学学科分布的空间分析——密歇根大学的案例

Spatial Distribution of Departments in the University of Michigan

本文试图提供一种理解综合性研究型大学学科空间布局的视角和方法。首先在空间社会学的理论框架下对密歇根大学校园空间微观实践进行了文本解读，发现大学有意识地利用空间安排实现其整合目标。然后运用地理信息系统的空间分析技术对大学四类学科群（文理学院、工学院、医学院和其它专业学院）的建筑空间分布进行了可视化和统计分析。研究发现，密歇根大学校园是多中心结构，文理学院和工学院呈中心化分布，医学院处于校园空间中心。

A case study of University of Michigan at Ann Arbor is conducted to explore the spatial structure of a research university. This study first reviews UM s facility construction practices during the past decade in a theoretical framework developed by Spatial Sociology. Then， spatial analysis techniques(specifically， Kernel density， mean center and standard deviation ellipse) are applied to visualize and reveal the spatial distribution patterns of the whole campus as well as four categories of disciplines: liberal arts， engineering， medicine and other professional schools The result shows that Ann Arbor campus has multiple cores with medical school in the spatial center.
