英文摘要 | In order to explore and elaborate on the concept of academic citizenship, the authors carried out a series of rich case studies conducted at four universities around the world. Specifically, they discuss how globalization presents new challenges and opportunities for students and faculty as academic citizens. All the four cases, including Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, the University of California, Los Angeles, the University of Buenos Aires, and Central European University, present different academic lives and citizenship, which were affected by the key facets to globalization, including most markedly the power of global capitalism to refashion the nature of academic life in all regions studied. Particularly, the authors are interested in the creative ways in which students and faculty adopt, as academic citizens, facing the powerful global forces and the significance implied by these engagements for contemporary universities seeking to be socially transformative. |
