China's economic transformation and financial system reform in higher education has given universities more autonomy in running schools， resulting in universities' greater awareness and enthusiasm to raise funds through multiple channels. The growth of the market economy and the accumulation of private-sector wealth have made the multi-financing possible. University foundations emerged and bloomed under such social and economic conditions， reflecting a certain historical inevitability. The past decade has witnessed a new era in higher education fundraising marked by the continuous growth in private donation and alumni donation， the diversification in the ways and purposes of giving， the improvement of organizational structure as well as the increasing level of professionalization of fundraising. With the deepening of China's economic reform， the fast growth of national economy， the continuing accumulation of private-sector wealth as well as the enhancing of public awareness of philanthropy， China's university foundations will surely seek new breakthroughs and make new leap forward. Private donation has a great potential to become one of the largest sources of funds for universities and make greater contributions to the development of China's higher education.
