Path Dependence in Educational Attainment

个体能否进入大学以及进入什么样的大学是否依赖于其所进入高中的类型？个体进入什么样的高中是否以及在多大程度上依赖于其所进入的初中甚至小学的类型？本文运用2005年N省W县的数据对上述问题分别进行了回答。结果发现，县镇初中和示范中学生进入重点高中的机会更大，重点高中学生进入三类本科以上学校的机会运运大于非重点高中；与此同时，与农村初中和非示范初中毕业生相比，县镇初中和示范初中毕业生进入三类本科以上学校的机会更大。本文结论认为：个体的高中教育机会质量依赖于初中学校类型，高等教育机会质量对初中学校类型着弱依赖，而对高中学校类型则存在强依赖的关系。

Does the university one enrolled depend on the senior high school he attended? Does the senior high school one goes to depend on his junior high school? This paper answers those questions. By analyzing a college entrance exam score database of 2005， it finds that: graduates of county-level junior high school and model junior high school are more likely to be enrolled in key senior high school and thus enjoy huger possibility of university access. It concludes that there is a strong correlation between higher education opportunity and the kind of high school attended and the correlation is weak between higher education opportunity and the kind of junior high school attended.
