Is There a Global Middle Class? The Beginnings of a Cosmopolitan Sociology of Education: A Review

本文探討全球化中產階級逐漸形成的可能性，以及教育在產生與再製全球化中產階級中所扮演的角色。本文就以下幾個方式探討上述問題：一、儘管相關文獻是零散而多元的，但將回顧及統整當前關於跨國階級的文獻。二、思考國際教育中相關的趨勢。三、辨識出未來研究的一些問題與研究議題。本文特別具體地指出新全球中產階級、新型態的國際教育、與後國家、國際主義意識的形成間的關係等一系列教育社會學中新的研究問題。

This paper explores the possibility of the emergence of a global middle class， and the role of education in the production and reproduction of this class. It does this by; (1) reviewing and pulling together some of the existing literature on transnational classes， although this is a rather sparse and diverse literature; (2) considering some relevant trends within international education; (3) identifying some questions and issues for further research. Specifically the paper gestures towards a set of research new questions for the sociology of education which address the relationships between a new global middle class， new forms of ‘international education’ and the formation of post-national， cosmopolitan sensibilities.
