英文摘要 | The paper investigates the comprehensive ability of 55 first-year English majors who have graduated from foreign language middle schools from the perspectives of English knowledge and use, English learning strategies, social psychology and English learning beliefs. It is found that in terms of English knowledge and use, they are far superior to those not graduating from foreign language middle schools. Their superiority in language skills is especially obvious in listening and speaking. With regard to learning strategies, they significantly differ from those from general schools in that they employ more active communicative strategy, cognitive management strategy, formal practice strategy and functional practice strategy, and resort much less to mother tongue use strategy. In terms of social psychology, they demonstrate more confidence and flexibility in their English study and are more self-conscious and care more about how others look at them. As regards to English learning beliefs, they tend to have clearer goals and set higher standard for themselves. Besides, they are more ready to adjust their study methods to accommodate different learning tasks. They value more active participation in class and also have higher expectations of their English teachers. |
